Overview Joseph Henske, M.D., is the director of the diabetes program at UAMS Health. Before joining UAMS in 2019, he worked in full-time clinical practice and served as the department chair of endocrinology for DuPage Medical Group in Chicago, IL. He is involved in the teaching and training of resident physicians and endocrinology fellows at UAMS, both in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Henske has been an active fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Henske has a number of areas of expertise within the Endocrinology field. These include type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, Diabetes management with exercise, insulin pumps, closed-look insulin pump systems, and continuous glucose monitoring systems.
Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes himself at the age of 15, Henske has committed his life to helping others with diabetes better manage their disease and live life to the fullest. He is an advocate for diabetes awareness, helping improve access to medications and technologies for patients, and has been involved in research to one day find better ways to prevent, treat, and cure this disease. He has had a lifelong passion for running including having completed 13 marathons and encourages his patients to include exercise as a key component in the treatment of their diabetes. Outside the clinic he enjoys spending time with his wife Lauren, a Little Rock native, and their six young children.
