Nahed O. ElHassan, MD, MPH is a Professor of Pediatrics (Division of Neonatology) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Arkansas Children’s Hospital (ACH). Dr. ElHassan attended medical school at the American University of Beirut Medical Center, Beirut, Lebanon. She completed a residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Department of Pediatrics (Neonatology). She also received a Master’s degree in Public Health at the Department of Public Health Sciences, University of Rochester, Rochester, New York. Dr. ElHassan’s clinical responsibilities focus on caring for infants with diverse neonatal pathologies at the ACH NICU. She developed the Division of Neonatology NICU Guideline Handbook and Electronic Application. Her early research interest was in neonatal nutrition. More recently, Dr. ElHassan’s interest has shifted to the health outcomes of the neonate. She is especially interested in evaluating the short and long term outcomes of different neonatal pathologies by designing studies based on registries and large administrative studies. In 2019, she was selected to join the inaugural class of the Data Scholars Program at the Translational Research Institute at UAMS. She is completing a PhD in Pharmaceutical Evaluation and Policy (PEP) at the graduate school at UAMS.
