overview C. Lowry Barnes, MD, completed fellowship training in total joint replacement from Harvard Medical School and from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2000, Dr. Barnes was named the Arthritis Foundation Person of the Year. In 2006, Dr. Barnes was awarded a John Insall fellowship and joined three surgeons from Belgium, Japan, and Johns Hopkins lecturing, learning and exchanging ideas about total knee replacements in the United States and Canada. He is a teacher and researcher as well as a surgeon. Dr. Barnes has a special interest in surgery of the hip and knee and is an active member of the Association of Hip and Knee Surgeries. He is currently consulting with Wright Medical and is helping to design new hip and knee replacements. He is the chair of Department of Orthopaedics at UAMS, and is currently president of Arkansas Orthopaedic Association. He has previously served as president of Southern Orthopaedic Association and Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery. He is named in “Best Doctors” and “Top Doctors in Orthopaedics,” and is consistently named as one of the top orthopaedic surgeons in Arkansas.
