overview Dr. Priya Mendiratta is a geriatrician who sees patients in the Thomas and Lyon Longevity Clinic at the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). She works in clinic, nursing home and long term care, rehabilitation unit and also sees patients on inpatient geriatric consult service. Her faculty appointment is at the UAMS College of Medicine, UAMS is that of Associate Professor at the Reynolds Department of Geriatrics. Her training in the United States include, a Family Medicine residency and a 2-year Geriatrics fellowship at the Reynolds Department of Geriatrics at UAMS.
teaching overview Dr. Mendiratta’s current educational activities are designed to engage health care providers at several different levels. Dr Mendiratta is the Director of the Geriatric Clerkship Program for the medical students in the College of Medicine at UAMS. She is currently involved in educating 175 fourth year medical students in geriatrics, 175 second year medical students over a week long workshop, 40 physician assistant students over a month long rotation, 5 advanced practice nurses, 18 residents, family medicine and 20 residents internal medicine and 2-3 fellows in geriatric training. In addition she is involved in geriatric residency training at her medical school in India of up to 4 residents and medical students. In addition she is an academic house advisor for 26 students from first to fourth year of medical school. She has strived to provide program instruction to enhance learning by incorporating a wide range of educational tools and methods which have resulted in improved student learning outcomes. She has also utilized novel techniques for the creation of content, content delivery to meet the challenges of effective teaching. Her involvement in education activities of various types of learners, she has contributed to the UAMS educational enterprise which has been impactful. She has been recognized by her colleagues, peers, and students for her ongoing efforts in pursuing teaching excellence.
