Family Health Patterns: A Study Across Generations
Overview The goals of this project are to test an overarching model of addiction risk where family histories of alcoholism and ELA induce blunted hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) stress reactivity, leading to immunologic dysregulation and increased immunoreactivity that impairs myelination and damages axons in developing frontal white matter tracts. The resulting impaired communication to and from the prefrontal cortex contributes to behavioral phenotypic characteristics that increase alcoholism risk.
