Alicia M. Allen, PhD, MPH, is the inaugural Director of the National Center for Opioid Research and Clinical Effectiveness (NCOR) at the Arkansas Children’s Research Institute and an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. A behavioral epidemiologist by training, her research examines the intersection of substance misuse — including opioids, tobacco/nicotine, and cannabis — and women’s health across the reproductive lifespan. Her work focuses on understanding how female-specific factors such as pregnancy, postpartum hormones, and the menstrual cycle influence addiction risk and recovery. She is driven by the belief that empowering women to overcome substance misuse challenges creates a ripple effect that strengthens the health and well-being of their children, families, and communities. Dr. Allen has led NIH-funded clinical and epidemiologic studies, published extensively in leading women's health and addiction journals, and is committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists.
