Overview Dr. Bean graduated from Hendrix College and attended graduate school at Brown University before returning to Arkansas to complete medical school. She completed her surgical internship and residency in Emergency Medicine at UAMS. After completing residency, Dr. Bean worked in private practice while also assuming a part-time position as Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine until 2004, when she became a full-time member of the Department of Emergency Medicine.Dr. Bean has been recognized as a Fellow of both ACEP and AAEM. In addition, she has served as an Arkansas Councilor for the ACEP's National Council Meeting. While serving as Director of Emergency Department Ultrasound Education from 2004 to 2012, Dr. Bean began to focus her academic activities in the arena of global health. She has given emergency medicine lectures and ultrasound workshops in the United States, Europe and Asia. Furthermore, she has participated in numerous medical service trips to Latin America and Haiti. She also leads a medical trip to Limon, Honduras where volunteers staff a rural primary care clinic along the Mosquito Coast.Her involvement in global health spans local, national, and international activities. She is the Associate Course Director for the Global Health and Service Honors Tract for Medical Students and a member of the UAMS Advisory Board for the Office of Global Health and its Global Health Accreditation Committee. She is also an active member of ACEP's Ambassadors Committee and SAEM's International Outreach Task Force. Finally, she serves as a reviewer for the European Journal of Emergency Medicine and the African Journal of Emergency Medicine.
