Overview Dr. Jimmy Acklin is a faculty member at UAMS West Fort Smith and a native Arkansan from Conway. He received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of Arkansas in 1979, and his doctorate in medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1983. His residency was with AHEC Fort Smith (now UAMS West), and he joined the staff of the program on completion of his residency in 1986. He was promoted to Associate Professor of Family Medicine in 1992, and became a fellow in the AAFP the same year. In 1997, he assumed the residency director position and remained there until 2013, when he left to work at the local VA clinic. He returned to part-time teaching in 2021 at UAMS West. Dr. Acklin has a special medical interest in HIV/AIDS care, obstetrics and procedural training. When not at the office, he can be found on his farm. Achievements & Awards: Faculty Teaching Award 2023. Named to the 'Best Doctors in Arkansas' as reported by AY Magazine for several years. Chief of Staff - Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas 2010.
