    Collapse overview
Dr. Dranoff was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and obtained a B.A. degree from Lehigh University and M.D. from Drexel University College of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at Boston University and the Boston City Hospital prior to training in Digestive Diseases at Yale University Medical School in New Haven, Connecticut. After completing his training at Yale, he remained as a faculty member there from 1999-2011. Dr. Dranoff is an internationally-known physician scientist. His clinical expertise focuses on the 'cholangiopathies', conditions primarily affecting bile duct cells, including primary biliary cirrhosis and primary sclerosing cholangitis. Dr. Dranoff also has a strong interest in cirrhosis and its complications. These clinical interests dovetail with Dr. Dranoff's NIH-supported research, focusing on the basic mechanisms of liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. AwardsPhi Eta Sigma, Lehigh University, 1987 Glaxo Institute for Digestive health Basic Science Award, 1999-2000, 2000-2001 AASLD Schering Advanced Hepatology Fellowship 2000-2001 Mt Desert Island Biological Laboratory New Investigator Award, 2000-2002 The Robert Leet and Clara Patterson Trust Basic Science Award, 2002 and 2003 GRG/AGA Young Investigator Symposium 2003 American Heart Association, Heritage Affiliate, Grant-in-aid, 2001-2007 AstraZeneca Emerging Leaders Programme, 2005-2006 American Society for Clinical Investigation, Inducted 2010
