    Dr. Thomas Abramo is Division Chief of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Arkansas Children's Hospital and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. He is Professor of Pediatrics and is board certified in Pediatrics and in Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Dr. Abramo attended Canisius College in Buffalo, New York where he earned his bachelor's degree in biochemistry. He attended medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee and then completed his general pediatrics residency as well as fellowship training in pediatric emergency medicine at Children's Hospital of Akron in Ohio. Since completing his fellowship training, Dr. Abramo has held faculty positions at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine and North Eastern Ohio Medical College in Ohio, Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters of Virginia in Norfolk and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. His most recent position prior to relocating to Little Rock was at Monroe Carell Jr.'s Children's Hospital of Vanderbilt where he served as Medical Director of the Pediatric Emergency Department, Medical Director of Pediatric Transport and Pediatric Emergency Physician in Chief. Dr. Abramo has a strong interest in clinical research in pediatric emergency medicine. His specific areas of interest include non-invasive monitoring in critically ill children including near-infrared spectroscopy, respiratory emergencies, sepsis, trauma, transport medicine and toxicology. He led the development of a successful program for clinical research at Vanderbilt with significant grant support and production of numerous scientific publications and presentations. His other area of major interest is quality improvement in the pediatric emergency department with focus on utilizing quality indicators to improve efficiency, cost effectiveness and patient outcomes at all levels. Dr. Abramo has maintained an active clinical practice of pediatric emergency medicine and has made significant contributions to education for learners from many facets of pediatric emergency medical practice. He has received awards for his quality improvement and patient safety activities as well as for his teaching.
